The following books are my personal favorites. These are the books that I feel should be in any Shotokan practioners library. These are by no means the only books available on the subject of Shotokan karate, but they are the best of the ones I have come across. Also, while some of these books are Shotokan specific, others are more general, but I still feel that are good enough to be part of this list and any martial artists library. I've recently signed up as an Amazon Associate. This means that you can purchase any of the books on this page from Amazon.com, "Earth's biggest bookstore". To purchase a book, just click on the cover and you'll automatically be brought over to Amazon.com. |

Karate: The Art of Empty-Hand Fighting Nishiyama-sensei does a superb job of explaining the basics of karate. While there is some history and philosophy covered, that's not what you want this book for. This book lays it all out, stances, kicks, punches and blocks. What's really cool are the training schedules. Definitely get this book. Published by Tuttle Reprint 1991 ISBN 0-804-81668-9 |
